EPA’s College Game Day Challenge
|
|
College football season is underway but this year the competition isn’t just on the football field. The Environmental Protection Agency is challenging colleges to compete to see who can recycle the largest amount of trash at a football game. The EPA’s 2010 Game Day Challenge is for schools to design a waste reduction plan for one home football game and measure the results. The goals include lowering the amount of waste generated at football games, increasing the number of people who recycle and generating awareness of waste reduction programs. A Michigan State University shows most of the trash generated at football games can be recycled or composted. Schools have until the end of September to register and will choose one home football game in October to implement the recycling plan. Colleges will track and report their waste and recycling data to help the EPA rank the schools. A winner will be announced in November.
