Corporate Spotlight, Eco-News by DoYourPart

The well known golden arches that symbolize McDonald’s restaurants are going green in more than one way. A rebuilt McDonald’s restaurant in Riverside, California is the fourth in the U.S. to seek LEED Gold Certification. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a certification system which helps define how green constructions and communities are around the world. The McDonald’s in Riverside features solar panels which generate a percentage of the building’s power consumption and low-flow plumbing fixtures to reduce water usage. Recycled denim was used to insulate the building and drought-tolerant plants are used in the landscape outside to reduce water consumption. The restaurant also features an interactive touch screen display for visitors to learn about environmental sustainability and how to reduce their carbon footprint. Other LEED certified McDonald’s are in Chicago, Cary, N.C. and Savannah, GA.
