Social Networking Site Promotes Water Reuse
Can the power of social networking start a water revolution? An international engineering company hopes so. CH2M Hill is launching a grassroots effort to promote the reuse of water. The company just announced the launch of WaterMatch, a social networking site that connects water generators with water users. The website is designed to help communities and companies meet, and then take action on conserving water.
While water reuse is a proven and effective way to conserve the limited water supply, global reuse rates are low. In the United States, the water reuse rate is only 14 percent. The new WaterMatch website will use geospatial mapping to help agriculture and industry find local water resources that do not rely on fresh water supplies. Users will use the online map to find wastewater treatment plants nearby.
WaterMatch is a goodwill initiative and not a commercial endeavor for CH2M Hill. No fees are required to use the website.
