Toxins in Cookware Can Impair Hormone Production

New research from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science shows that polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) have a direct effect on the production of steroid hormones like testosterone and cortisol. The study focused on the effects of the toxins on lambs during time of development. The results showed that lambs that were exposure to PCBs while in the mother’s womb or ingested them through the mother’s milk,  later had issues with proper hormone production. While PCBs have been banned since the 1970s, the toxins still persist in the environment. PFCs, however, are very common in non-stick cookware made of Teflon and water-resistant clothing.

How can you Do Your Part?

Many people are exposed to PFCs through cookware. Do Your Part and and pick better cookware.  Opt for pans made of cast iron and choose bakeware made of glass.  If you own a Teflon pan that is scratched, stop using it immediately.
