Have you all heard of the dumpster pools they have in NYC this summer? This is a great way to reuse it. Would any of you swim in one of these ”pools”?

One of my favorite things to do with my kids’ old clothes that are stained, too small and can no longer be worn is to cut the fabric into pieces and make tote bags or blankets out of them! They get a whole new life. Plus every time I look at them I have a reminder of how precious my little girls looked in those cute little outfits. They also love it when I cute their clothes down and make t-shirts or dresses for their dolls and stuffed animals.

Very cool. Here’s another idea I recently stumbled upon that reuses a pillowcase to make a ruffle dress for a little girl! Too bad my nieces are too big for this now.

I save all the spare buttons that come with clothes and my kids love to string them on necklaces or use them to make the faces on animals and people that they draw. They are also fun to use on good old-fashioned sock monkeys and other hand-sewn stuffed toys.

I like to sew and make fun crafts for my nieces, so I keep the spare buttons too. I put mine in the those hard plastic case that ipods come in when you first buy them. I have quite a few of these cases so I can sort the buttons by size. It makes it so much easier to scan through without having to dump all the buttons out.

I like to use empty wine bottles as boot shapers for my knee high boots. They help to keep the boots standing tall while they are stored during the spring/summer months.

Talk about a super fun way to reuse old glass bottles! Not sure you can do this so easily at home but these are great everyday drinking glasses that have been made reusing old bottles so I wanted to share. Could make a great gift too! http://www.etsy.com/listing/38980591/yava-glass-recycled-boylans-pure-seltzer

I use old ice cube trays to organize earrings and other small jewelry pieces. It helps me to find want I’m looking for so much easier in the mornings.

I use earnings that are missing their mate as pushpins on my bulletin board. Maybe if I used the ice tray to help organize I would still have a complete set!

That’s a great idea to use them as pushpins. I wouldn’t have thought of that!

This is one of my kids favorite ’green’ crafts. A wax coated container destined for the landfill can easily be turned into a bird feeder that will last for months and months. I used a quart milk carton. All you have to do is cut a hole toward the bottom that removed one side and half of the two adjoining sides. It basically looks like I cut a ’U’ out of the carton. Punch a hole in the top of the carton and loop a piece of string or rope for hanging. Put some bird feed in the container and hang outside near a window.

The one I made lasted all through the winter and the birds are still flocking to it to feed. Because the carton is wax coated it can’t be recycled but it will last a long time as a bird feeder in my yard.
