Looking to surprise my hubby with some gadgets for Christmas, but they have to be eco-friendly. Suggestions welcome! · View -

Have you all heard of the dumpster pools they have in NYC this summer? This is a great way to reuse it. Would any of you swim in one of these ”pools”?

Here is a craft you can do using empty glass jars and scrap pieces of fabric. You can use these découpage jars as vases or to hold other objects you have around the house.

James Cameron, the director of Titanic, is working with other scientists, engineers, the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal organizations to help brainstorm ideas about how to stop the oil spill in the Gulf. He is apparently going to use his knowledge of underwater filming to help the team best contain the oil.
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/37453610/ns/today-entertainment/
And Kevin Costner has spent millions of his money developing machines that can suck up the oily mess and remove the oil from the water. I can’t understand why we aren’t hearing if the machines are working or IF they are even being used on a large scale to clean up the mess in the Gulf. Check out the story here

I love the bamboo kitchen items from Crate and Barrel. It’s a good thing that I do not have one close to me…otherwise I could do some serious damage in that store!
In reply to - Becky S. posted an update in the group Support Green Retail : I have always loved Crate and Barrel when I need to find a great gift, but it’s nice to know they are doing their part to help reduce their impact on the environment. What is the best way to cook brussel sprouts? Any good recipes?
In reply to - Cheryl Nelson posted an update in the group In The Kitchen : Who likes brussel sprouts? My husband and I do! Brussels sprouts are very high in fiber and belong to the disease-fighting cabbage family. They look like miniature cabbages don’t they! Like broccoli and cabbage – fellow cruciferous vegetables – brussels sprouts may protect against cancer with [...] · View -

So what does everyone think of Kevin Costner’s plan for the Gulf oil spill? He has donated six machines that use centrifugal force to separate the oil from water to the rescue efforts in Gulf. They plan to try these machines out this week to see if they will work and help clear the polluted water. Hopefully Costner’s plan will help aid in the clean up! http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2011925837_oilkevin22.html

I think that the micro chip is a good idea, anything that will get people to recycle more! I wonder if fines for households who do not recycle are not far behind…
In reply to - Terri posted an update in the group Charlotte, NC Recycling : The city’s new green recycling can on wheels also contains a Radio Frequency Identification Chip to help manage the inventory and focus recycling education where it is most needed. I personally don’t mind. Perhaps it will entice more people to recycle. · View -
I like to use empty wine bottles as boot shapers for my knee high boots. They help to keep the boots standing tall while they are stored during the spring/summer months.

Does anyone have any good ideas on crafts that I can create using wine corks?
I have seen some really cool wreaths made of wine corks. Just stand the cork up on it’s end and hot glue them in straight lines around a wreath form (use the straw kind…foam may melt and isn’t as eco-friendly anyway). I just found this photo online too and this type looks neat as well!
http://www.sterlingwineonline.com/images/decor/wine%20cork%20wreaths/wine-cork-wreath.jpgCorks also make great filler for vases when you are not using them. You can group various sizes of cork filled vases together for a quick home accent.
I’ve heard of making coasters with them. I like this bulletin board key rack that i found at Etsy. You could definitely make this yourself with a glue gun, reclaimed wood, and a few hooks.
