Soldier and Family Readiness Group (SFRG)

Missouri State Family Readiness Groups (SFRGs) support military families with social and emotional resources, including information, referrals, and education, working alongside State Family Readiness Staff (SFRSs) to strengthen family readiness and unit preparedness across Missouri.

Washington National Guard Joint Services Support Directorate

Washington’s centralized support center for Guardsmen, Reservists, veterans, and military families offers family readiness programs, services, and community connection events.

Tennessee’s “Stars and Stripes: Governor’s Council for Armed Forces, Veterans, and Their Families” coordinates programs, enhances collaboration among public and private sectors, maintains a comprehensive inventory of veteran and military family services, and promotes Tennessee as a top state for service members, veterans, and their families.

The North Dakota Military Commission develops statewide strategies to maintain and enhance military forces, bases, and missions. The task force examines current challenges, advises on base retention funding, promotes North Dakota as a military-friendly state, and serves as a liaison for military and state leaders.

The Ohio National Guard Family Assistance Committee (ISFAC) brings together regional, state, and federal agencies to coordinate resources and support for Ohio service members and military families.

Washington State Military Transition & Readiness Council

The Washington State Military Transition and Readiness Council (WSMTRC), established by the Governor’s Executive Order, brings together state, local, and federal agencies, military installations, and private organizations to collaborate on supporting the military community across Washington.

Ohio’s Department of Public Safety offers an “Armed Forces” designation on driver's licenses and ID cards for veterans and active or Reserve U.S. military service members to recognize military service and support military families.

Hawaiʻi offers 10 distinctive military license plates to honor the service and sacrifice of active-duty service members, veterans, retirees, and eligible family members.

Magnify Utah helps military families integrate into their new communities by connecting them with Utah’s diverse cultural traditions through events, workshops, and online resources that foster community engagement.

Georgia provides a Military Family Handbook that helps military-connected students and families navigate school enrollment, transitions, and available education supports across the state.

Family Programs office’s Soldier Family Readiness Specialists (SFRS)

Missouri supports military-connected students and families through Soldier Family Readiness Specialists who provide guidance, resources, and coordination to help families navigate education, transitions, and challenges related to military service.

The Maine Military and Community Network is a statewide coalition of services, state leaders, and military representatives that collaborates to understand, prevent, and address challenges faced by service members, veterans, and their families.

New York City’s Military Family Advocate Program is a collaborative initiative between NYC Public Schools and the Department of Veterans’ Services that enhances military cultural competency, supports engagement with military families, promotes access to benefits, and builds community while reducing stigma for military children and parents.

Coordinates the state's activities and acts as a communications center for issues relating to current and former military bases in Illinois. There is a specific subcommittee that focuses on improving quality of life for military service members, veterans, and military families across Illinois with an emphasis on healthcare, education, employment, and any other issues related to quality of life.

Illinois offers 40 distinctive military license plates to honor the service of active-duty service members, veterans, and eligible family members.

Idaho offers 10 distinctive military license plates to honor the service of active-duty service members, veterans, and their families.

Nebraska Revised Statute, Chapter 55, Section 601, 602, 605

Nebraska law (Nebraska Revised Statute, Chapter 55, Section 601, 602, 605) includes military-connected representation on a statewide defense board that advises policymakers on quality-of-life issues affecting service members, veterans, and military families.

Utah Code, Title 36, Chapter 28, Section 102 & 103

Utah law (Utah Code, Title 36, Chapter 28, Section 102 & 103) includes dedicated military‑connected representation on a statewide defense board that advises state policymakers on quality of life issues affecting service members, veterans, and their families.

Georgia offers 186 distinctive military license plates to honor military members, veterans, and their families with service‑recognition options.

Calendar of Events

WDVA’s online calendar of events lists in-person and virtual programs serving military and veteran families, with partners able to submit events to support the military community.
